In the evening a prayer congregation and discussion was held in presence of community leaders, organizations, family and friends. In a recitation Bangladesh Language Movement hero of 1952 Mohammad Siddique Hossain and the former Dhaka Judge court lawyer AK Abdul Ali spoke about "life and death" in the light of religious philosophy, and prayed for peace of the departed soul. University of Alberta researcher Dr. Hafizur Rahman, and other academics and professionals from different disciplines, including women and children were present at the ceremony.

With focus on some of the activities of the Mahinur Jahid Memorial Foundation (MJMF) held during last year in 2014 in the area of sports, culture and charity, Delwar Jahid, President of the Bangladesh PressClub Centre of Alberta (BPCA) and the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) spoke on that occasion. During his speech Delwar Jahid focussed on the development and dissemination of knowledge about values honored in our community, such as morale, ethics and justice, and how this can be utilized to build a strong unity and to set an example for future generations.

The newly elected president of the Bangladesh Canada Association of Edmonton (BCAE) Kazi Aurangzeb requested to stop feeling anger towards members of the community who have done something wrong, and to forgive and forget in the spirit of the creator, using the means of forgiveness as a conscious, a deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment toward the person who brought harm to an individual or the community. He appealed to everyone to follow the spirit of harmony.

The Director of Finance of the University of MacEwan Students' Association Kausar Khanduker addressed the participants of the MJMF Soccer Tournament in a speech where he recalled the memory of Mahinur Jahid, and the events of MJMF. Present at the event were members of the winning team Tanvir Hasan (Bangladesh Press), Sanjeev Chowdhury, Syfur Hasan, Saifuddin Khaled, Zulfiqar Ahmed, and from the team of BHESA leader Ahsan Ullah, Anamur Rahman Miea, guest athlete Mukhles Munshi, as well as Treasurer of BCAE Arif Ahmad Khan, Hayderjan Chowdhury and Mirza Basir.
